I want to talk about creativity. We often hear that our clients get stuck in addressing day-to-day problems and never get the chance to think bigger, be more creative and design innovative solutions. So, how do you get out of your comfort zone and see what’s possible?
Well, you need to start with another question: What would you do if ANYTHING were possible?
This question opens up possibilities and allows us to imagine what could be, rather than starting from a place of solving problems. Solving problems, fixing things, is important in our work and serves a great purpose, but it rarely pushes us out of our comfort zone. We may even find that it keeps us locked into what we know and stunting our ambitions before we’ve even give them a chance.
Instead, think about what you could do if you had unlimited resources, staff and budget, and no possibility of encountering resistance. Where would you start? What would you change?
It helps to physically get out of your office or regular working space. Go for a walk, book a team offsite, spend a day in another part of your building. Changing your physical location is a great reminder that you’re stepping outside of what is comfortable for you. Once you come up with all your great ideas, then you can start to determine what is feasible or realistic. So, next time you need to come up with a big solution, don’t be afraid to change your approach.
